Janusz Konrad

VIDEOPSY: Enabling Technology for Networked Video Surveillance

Janusz Konrad received the M.Eng. degree from the Technical University of Szczecin, Poland, in 1980, and the Ph.D. degree from McGill University, Montreal, PQ, Canada, in 1989, both in electrical engineering and with distinction.

In July 1989 he joined INRS-Telecommunications, a research center within the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, University of Quebec, as a Research Associate. In May 1991, he became an Assistant Professor at INRS-Telecommunications, and in June 1992 he was appointed an Associate Professor. Since 1993, he has also been an Adjunct Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering, McGill University. In 1997, he was a Visiting Scientist with the Cambridge Research Laboratory, Digital Equipment Corporation, Cambridge, MA, and, in 1998, he was a Visiting Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Boston University, Boston, MA. From 1991 to 1995 he collaborated with the Multimedia Applications and Systems Group of Bell-Northern Research, Montreal. He is collaborating now with Imax Corporation, Mississauga, Ont., Canada, and with the Network Storage Group, EMC Corporation, Hopkinton, MA. His interests are in the areas of image and video compression and processing, stereoscopic and 3-D imaging, multidimensional signal processing, and computer vision.

Currently, he is an associate editor for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON IMAGE PROCESSING and for the IEEE COMMUNICATIONS MAGAZINE, and the Technical Program Co-Chair for the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing, ICIP-2000
